24 March
Improvisation – Finding Curiosity when the Flow gets Bumby
– 14:30 – 17:30
We will use a variety of exercises as the point of inspiration/departure for our improvisations – with particular attention to remaining aware of sensation, allowing dance and vocalization to unfold from here. We will work a bit in solo and mostly work in duo-group improvisation.
Another focus will be to investigate moments of improvisation which feel awkward, confusing, difficult or boring when improvising with another. We will actively practice being curious, staying with these moments. This focus includes exploring how to remain true to our own allowing-dance – while simultaneously remaining in connection with the other.
This workshop is inspired by my background in improvisational performance in theater – Bread + Puppet Theater USA, dance and somatic training, as well as my research in cognitive science – exploring cognition not just in the mind, but extending beyond mind-body into mind-body-social cognition.
This workshop is open to all movers – skill level, from all backgrounds. For all – please arrive with a strong work ethic and be prepared to be active. It is a LGBTQI+ friendly space. All mobilities welcome. There are a few steps into the studio and if this creates a barrior for you, please let me know. We can find a solution.

Drop-In/Registration. Drop in is OK. Class size will be limited to 15 people. To make sure you have a spot you must register early by writing: erinchristinebell AT gmail.com.

5 + 6 April
Sensing Into 4E Theory: Practicing Curiosity at Multiple Levels of Sense-Making
When cognition is explored at the level of theory the experiential dimensions of what cognition feels like and how it actually unfolds are often left at the sidelines. This is a workshop to put felt experience back into the science of understanding cognition.
We present concrete tools to help you explore feeling into your situation – the embodied, equipped, social dynamics of cognition in your own every day work and beyond. We offer exercises dealing with internal experience and exercises to explore different forms of participatory sense making. As well, we will work with the idea of “letting be.”
Presented in collaboration with neuroscientist Annika Lubbert.
LOCATION-TIME: University of Lj, Cognitive Science Dept. – Ljubljana, Slovenia. More info here.

9 April
Boundaries + the Body – Somatic Sexuality
Other Nature – Berlin. 18:30 – 21:00. Fee: 20€ (15€ ermäßigt). English language.
Sexuality and arousal flow in and out of our overall sense of being. Whether on a train, at a
cafe, at work, a “life of it’s own” quality emerges during all social interaction.
How do I feel standing near you? Do your words tell me I am welcome but I still feel
unwelcome? If I want to flirt with you, how do I know that is welcome by you?
This workshop is about subtle, deep listening, to the sensations that arise during
interaction. These are the fundamentals of consent. This workshop expands on verbal
consent, to include what we can sense of subtle boundaries in the body.
Through concrete exercises we will explore how to feel your own boundaries, as well as
listening to the boundaries of others. I will present brief and relevant Cognitive Science
research about social interaction. You will leave with tools and knowledge – to bring you
more FEELING, vitality and choice into your own navigation of social space.
This workshop includes basic touch (such as hand to shoulder or arm). If you prefer to
work with someone familiar, bring a friend! For any uncomfortable with touch, please feel
welcome to participate as an active/present observer.
*I consider gender to be fluid. All ages, relationship status or history welcome.
All welcome.
